When referring to the material composition of a cutting saw, one primarily refers to the material of the saw blade (or saw band), which directly determines its cutting capability, wear resistance, and applicable processing range. One common material for saw blades is high-carbon steel; this material is relatively low in cost and possesses good toughness, making it suitable for cutting softer materials such as wood and plastics. However, its wear resistance is moderate, rendering it unsuitable for high-intensity metal cutting operations. Another category is High-Speed ​​Steel (HSS), which offers superior hardness and heat resistance; it can be utilized for cutting medium-hardness metal materials and boasts a longer service life compared to high-carbon steel.

 

In industrial applications, carbide-tipped saw blades are far more prevalent. These blades feature carbide inserts embedded in their teeth, providing exceptional hardness and wear resistance. They are well-suited for cutting harder materials-such as steel and stainless steel-and deliver high levels of cutting efficiency and precision. Additionally, bi-metal saw bands are available; these combine both toughness and wear resistance, are designed for use with band saw equipment, and offer a well-balanced overall performance profile. For specialized materials, diamond-tipped saw blades or ceramic-coated blades are often employed, primarily for cutting stone, glass, or high-hardness composite materials.
